Vietnam's per capita expenditure on medicines has increased from US$9.85 in 2005 to US$22.25 in 2010 and is expected to increase to US$163 by 2025.
3.3. Biotechnology: Vietnam's biotechnology industry will continue to consolidate, develop and increase intensive investment in key national laboratories, institutes and centres. By 2025, the country aims to have at least 15 laboratories that are at the advanced level of the ASEAN region and the world. As one of the world's largest exporters of food and beverages, particularly coffee, pepper, processed fish and cashew nuts, Vietnam is placing increasing emphasis on food safety and testing. Improvements in the quality of life have also led the government to enact programmes to strengthen food safety testing.
Vietnam's food and beverage industry is expected to maintain high growth from 2022 onwards, with the main driver being domestic consumption. The food industry is growing rapidly and is one of Vietnam's largest export industries. Vietnam has a modern regulatory framework for food safety and food testing will improve as food analysis facilities continue to improve.
3.5. Chemical industry: Vietnam's demand for chemicals and chemical products is on the rise, with an increasing need for high-quality chemical pre-products, especially for the production of fertilisers, plastic products, pharmaceuticals, paints and varnishes. According to the Ministry of Chemistry (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the annual gross output value of Vietnam's chemical industry accounts for about 10-11 per cent of total industrial GDP, including pharmaceuticals, fertilisers, paints, inks, petrochemicals, and basic chemicals. The one-day growth in demand for domestic high-quality chemical products requires domestic production units to constantly innovate and improve operational processes and expand production scale. However, at present, there are still many chemical industries that rely heavily on imports.
3.6. Environmental monitoring: Vietnam's pursuit of sustainable development in the environmental monitoring industry is gradually intensifying. The demand for innovative environmental monitoring solutions is driving investment opportunities in this sector.
3.7. Materials industry: Industry helps accelerate the country's industrialisation and modernisation and improves the quality of life. However, most of Vietnam's supporting industrial enterprises are currently small and medium-sized enterprises with low production levels, and investment in materials inspection and testing technology is a necessary factor to increase domestic production capacity.
