Market Profiles:
In Kazakhstan, the government owns 80% of the medical companies. Because of this, the government plays a very important role in medical issues. There are also many joint ventures between the government and private healthcare organizations, for example, 70% of the dental clinics are privately owned, but usually public health services are carried out under the control of state and municipal authorities. During the past few years, the government has made a lot of management measures on public health reform and development. Public health reform and development programs have been adopted, the catalog of free medical assistance has been constantly introduced, and this year has been called the Year of Health. Currently, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan has intensified the treatment of tuberculosis, diabetes, AIDS, oncological diseases and other diseases caused by iodine deficiency, and the program has begun to be implemented in these directions.
Kazakhstan's pharmaceutical industry is extremely underdeveloped, and more than 70% of medicines need to be imported; local enterprises can only produce part of the conventional medicines, and all patented medicines need to be imported, and even some infusion products need to be imported. Foreign medicines registered in Kazakhstan come from 57 countries, with origins in 99 countries. Locally manufactured medicines are mainly herbal preparations. The annual per capita use of medicines in Kazakhstan is $18.82, while in Eastern European countries it is $80-120 and in developed countries $124-345.
According to the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the import of medical equipment has increased by 95%, while 97% of medical preparations circulate on the market through the private sector.
Nowadays, more than 100 companies representing countries are registered in Kazakhstan. The largest suppliers of medical preparations are from Russia, Germany, France and the USA.
The government has also implemented policies to encourage the development of pharmaceuticals: Kazakhstan's Health Strategy Development Plan 2020 lists the pharmaceutical industry as a key industry for development; in 2016, it was determined that the government is expected to invest 33 million U.S. dollars in the development of the pharmaceutical industry in the next 20 years, and the proportion of domestically produced medicines will be increased to 50% by 2018; the GMP standards implemented by the government have further standardized and facilitated the development of the pharmaceutical industry in the country. According to the data analysis, the current medical equipment market demand for the highest equipment as follows: electronic medical equipment, diagnostic equipment, endoscopy, medical laser equipment, dental equipment and so on.
